Firefox Bookmarks & Windows 8

I have just got a new laptop which is Windows 8, my previous being Windows 7. I like to use Firefox and being an organised comper like to bookmark threads from the comps forum into various folders.

Previously used to just Ctrl D and your little bookmark star would turn yellow and up would pop your little box where you could then select which folder to file the bookmark. Likewise when you had finished with a page Ctrl D or click the star and the same box would pop up so you can delete the bookmark.

Well got my new lappy yesterday and when I click CtrlD the little star turns yellow and nothing else happens Same if I just click the little star, no box pops up which means the only way to sort the bookmark is to actually go through the bookmarks folder and file that way which is very time consuming and annoying. Google Chrome works fine but I like to use Firefox for other reasons.

I have researched the Mozilla help pages and read re being able to edit bookmarks etc which gives a fix to check a certain file is not read only which I have done that and it's not.

If anyone can suggest a fix would be eternally grateful,

I use Firefox and Windows 8. To be honest I just click on the bookmark icon at the top on the right. But I prefer to use a cordless mouse and never think of using the CtrlD etc way.

Just tried clicking on Bookmark this page and the little box popped up asking if I wanted to or cancel.

I too use windows 8 and firefox and my mouse, but just tried ctrlD and as you say above the star turns yellow, but i do get the box pop up - is it possible something in your settings if it is a new computer?

When i bookmark comps i use a mouse i just right click and select bookmark folder, so not much help, sorry

Thanks for the replies. Hubby has tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox but sadly makes no difference, I am still not getting the little box pop up
