AA Breakdown Amazon gift voucher offer

Could someone advise me on the following issue I have.
The AA in November 2013 were offering a free £50 amazon gift voucher for taking out a policy with them.
I needed breakdown cover so went via greasy palm cashback site to the AA's website which showed the free amazon gift voucher.I took out the annual cover and the AA site prompted me to check my mailbox in January as this is when the voucher would be sent.
As I had not received anything I chased this up with the AA only to be told "I have looked at your membership and need to advise that unfortunately you would not qualify for the voucher offer, part of the offer is that the membership was taken directly with the AA and as you joined via a cash back site the vouchers would not be applicable"
There was no warning on the site telling me this and I was on the AA website when I put through my order which clearly showed on their front page the same amazon offer.

Are they allowed to not honour their offer, do I have any recourse?

Thanks in advance.

  • What did the AA offer terms and conditions say about going via a third party site?

Usually you only get the cashback amount or the merchant's offer, not both. I usually work out which gives me the most back and go that way.
  • My brother is having a similar issue and not sure where to go with it. I did see it in the t&c's about going through cash back website and he too hadn't received his voucher. After speaking to 9 different advisors at the aa he was told sorry try this link and enter your membership number we are investigating why it's not working, or wait this amount of time, or we will call you back etc. anyway fast forward to last week brother phones again to complain he still hasn't received a call back or his voucher to be told because he didn't take the home start he doesn't qualify?? The logged a complaint and they have written to him saying we have investigated and because you didn't take out home start u can't have it but sent a cheque for £20 as a goodwill gesture for his complaint. Obviously the deals is now off to be able to trawl through the t&c's again so not sure whether to just accept defeat or appeal the decision?

    Any advice
