sony surround sound connections......

in Techie Stuff
recently moved house and brought our Sony BDV-E370 with us. problem is the surround sound speakers were under the floor, so i had to cut the color coded connections off.
can i just buy some speaker cable of ebay and twist them together and plug them back in or wont that work? need cables are £10 each off ebay!
