I put in a claim witrh GE money for a First national loan taken out in approx 2000. I have been informed that this is time barred. After being successful with other claims during this period, what does 'time barred' mean ( sorry for sounding so thick
!!
Do I have anymeans to go to the FOS??
thanks in advance.

The "other claims" would be with banks, am I right?
They are time barring as there is no jurisdiction over them for sales at the time, so FOS will not take on a complaint. You are talking of a sale 14 years ago which is indeed over 6 years from the time of sale.
You may want to complain to the insurer as I believe they may take on the complaint.0 -
Thanks for this, I don't suppose anyone knows who the insurer is and should I go to them direct of go via the ombudsman route?0

Depends on the definition of time bar. Time bar typically refers to being too late to complain. However, with PPI, there are no known current time bars. Although there are a lot in the countdown period to become barred.
I wonder if they are referring to the fact it is pre 2005 and before regulation and barred from complaint due to time it was taken out. If it is that, you wouldnt get access to the FOS. Can you paste the wording to tell you that your complaint is time barred?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. i think its commercial union (now aviva), or cardif pinnacle.0 -
CGU (now Aviva) was the provider before 2002. You should contact them about it. FOS can review timeliness, so you should still get a final response with FOS rights if the insurer thinks it's out of time too.0
