what if solicitor is off sick

Completion day is set for Friday. If there are 4 the in chain and 3 people were dealing with the same company but different solicitors. If one solicitor is off sick can another solicitor do the completion work on the day

    What a stupid arrangement.

Hopefully someone else in the firm will takeover that solicitor's workload.

Your solicitor could still complete using laptop, iPad, iPhone etc. We often holiday with friends who are solicitors and they do just this.

Or the office may have contingency.

See my post above. Solicitors are entitled to time off and can be sick just like you and me.

  • I hope that another solicitor in the practice can finish off the work on completion day as we are all supposed to hand in our keys at lunch time. I have a removal company booked which is going to cost a arm and a leg so I need to get the keys of the house that I have signed the contract for.

My solicitor was off on leave on my completion date, another solicitor in the firm just dealt with her cases that day. Should be routine.

I think G_M means that 3 of the 4 in chain are using the same solicitor firm is a stupid arrangement. Possible conflict of interest and what information is provided etc amongst other things.

Whenever I dealt with solicitors - 5th time at the moment (buying property with ex, selling it, buying my own property, staircasing 1 and staircasing (going to full ownership) I have been always been given a primary name of contact. On the initial paperwork, it does state if primary contact is not available, a 2nd named person will work on your file.

The solicitors I used - 3 different ones have 15-20 solicitors in the firm.

Generally it is acceptable if a different partner is handling each transaction. I have been involved in a chain of three like this. It's actually quite beneficial. The solicitors can talk to each other easily.

Its against Law Society rules though. Unless all parties are former Clients of the firm or all family members, then the same firm cannot represent all parties due to conflict of interest
