never mind apps. general internet use is surely as vulnerable on tablet as pc and antivirus would be advisible.

All the viri are basically apps that have been hacked or from unknown sources so far .
But as every TD&H is buying tablets and smartphone its makes a whole heap of sense for the bad guys to start targeting them .Mobile web sites email etc are all vulnerable just as on a PC .
But most of the problems are typical user clicks something or replies to a bank email asking them for passwords .That will get to be a far bigger problem with tablet users many of who will be unaware .
  • original question is .do i need internet security and anti virus for a tablet?
the simple answer is . YES.
    better safe than sorry

You don't need antivirus or anything like that with an iPhone/iPod or an iPad.
