Camera battery

I have a Panasonic FZ7 which hasn't been used for at least 2 years. I charged the battery [for about 2 hours], switched on and it seemed to be working. Next day I switched it on and nothing happened. I put the battery back in the charger, but the charging light went out immediately as though it was already charged.

I'm hoping it's just a problem with the battery - i.e. that although it appears to be charged, in some way it's no longer capable of powering the camera due to the long period of inactivity.

Please can somebody with much more camera experience than me offer any advice?

I'd say the battery was totally dead and thats killed it, it looks like it's charging but its not.
