firm gone bust - any help?

My neighbour is self employed, a sub-contracted joiner with a firm making windows. Was told tonight they are in administration. Not getting paid and locked out. His wife works full time, they have 3 kids and a joint mortgage. Are they entitled to any help until he gets another job?

Are they receiving tax credits at the moment?
Has he been working for the past 2 years and paid NI contributions?
Sorry for your neighbour, not a good situation to be in. He could make a claim as a creditor with the administrators for money owed, but it's unlikely he'll receive anything, they'll pay HMRC first from any assets.0 -
blondebubbles, might he be able to get contribution based JSA?0

His self employment hasn't actually ended either. He wasn't an employee of the company so it's not like redundancy.
Thanks, I see what you're saying.0 -
