Otherwise you should be able to pay immediately through internet

This assume you have access, it's not expensive, it's not unsafe (shared computer) and you have nothing better to do on your holiday.

I've certainly been places where there is no access (try the middle of the Red Sea). It can be more expensive than interest in some hotels and it's extortionate by satellite on cruise ships.
Sometimes it's just better to enjoy you're holiday and pay £2.50 when you get home. IME it's about the price of a coffee (I'm assuming a 2 week holiday - if you're away for months on end this doesn't apply).

This thread started in January this year - why is it being resurrected?

Well, we have a new Clarity thread almost every day.
At least wearside made some effort before starting a new thread to ask the same question the umpteenth time.

I assume that you can also pay back immediately on-line by a transfer?

At least some replies were helpful :rotfl: I have just applied for this card to take away on holiday in case of emergencies, that's all. I have no intention of using it when at home.:D

I also just ordered a Halifax clarity CC, purely for overseas purchasing usage,

I also notice it states free cash withdrawls overseas , this is great !!

but be sure to ask for a local currency exchange rate not GBP

make sure you make a payment to the card asap as interest is charged on cash withdrawals from day 1.

un-used cards occasionally get stopped at just the wrong moment

You can, but it has to be immediately after it appears in the statement, not after a withdrawal.
There can be some other nuances as well.

You don't have to wait for your statement but it's best to wait for the transaction to show on Internet Banking.

It might indeed be best to wait for the statement, depends what else is going on.
