Hello peoples. Sorry been a bit incognito am finding this difficult. No 4 sons 18th birthday, and a bust up with oh doesn't help. I know excuses excuses. Well both done and dusted, so calling in early with 1 afd for tonight.
    :)

My May target will be more realistic this month so will set it at 10 please Shaggy.

They're not excused barnie, just life getting in the way. What matters is that you haven't given up and you're making plans for next month.

I have a regular target of 10. This is very modest as I've no plans to be AF at weekends (and months like My have 5 weekends). So I try to be AF Mon-Thurs but allow myself days off for eating out/special occasions. If I can beat the 10 then I'm delighted. What matters to me is that I'm in control. I drink when I choose. Alongside this I choose not to drink too much so consumption has dropped.

Sorry for the speech. It's what works for me so may be of some use to someone else.:)

    Anyone seen satchmo?

I'm reserving judgement on tonight. I've got a long day so I'll decide later.

Had a single glass yesterday with a meal. Thought about carrying on when I got home, took glass from cupboard. Then changed my mind and made a cup of tea. This is becoming a habit.:rotfl:

Forgot to say - loved this!

Great to see you back posting, A'Barnie.

I find knowing what works for other people much more helpful than reading books, to be honest, so I'm glad you posted how you've managed to be in control. I haven't read Satchmo's posts, but it seems she is posting pretty regularly on other threads. I'm going to drop her a PM, because now that you've mentioned her I realised she's been missing from here since she went on holdiay back in March.

Calling early for tonight as I will be shut in my office for 36 hours with a new-to-me dog to calm him down and get him settled.

    30/30 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

    Hi everyone,

1 more for me so that's my first target hitting month in a while, 15/15 please Shaggy.
Thank you very much for being the numbers guru, it really helps.

Arsenal Barnie I know I've often disappeared off here when I'm struggling and I've found sticking around helps me even if my lack of success makes me feel shame-faced. As Maman said the important thing is you're still here and tomorrow is a shiny new month.

Maman, like HoneyBear I find it helpful to hear how others are succeeding so thank you.

Honeybear, I hope your new to you dog settles in well, what type of doggy are they?

One of the things that has worked for me this month is just setting Mon - Thu and that has mostly shut the debating society up which was a lot less wearing! I set 3 April exceptions at the start of the month for social events and the 1 time I cracked was passing a pub beer garden on a sunny Thursday but I stayed booze-free the next day instead, even though it was a Friday.

Lemongrass and ginger is still working well for me when I am bored with water. And Bitter Lemon in the pub made a nice change.

Well done to everyone for April, and here's to a new month. An AF toast of course.

    Good night all.

I do hope the dog settles HB, sounds like quite a marathon.:)

I'm delighted to say I managed to stay AF tonight. I could so easily have wavered: got in late, then opened sad email from a friend with health issues, called her then had to make an hour long work call.

Strangely enough, two things helped: one I really wanted my 14 day smiley:D and the other was I didn't really fancy any of the wine we've got in or a G&T. I'm getting really fussy and selective whereas when I started on here I'd have drunk most things.:o

    14 AFDs please Shaggy.

You really seem like you've got this drinking in moderation thing sussed Maman - you are an inspiration to me :T

I managed 28/30 for April thanks Shaggy. Missed my target obviously but have realised that total abstinence isn't for me (at the moment anyway) and pleased that I only drank on 2 days in April. A grand total of 1 glass of Cava and 2 glasses of wine :D I feel in a good place with my drinking at the moment. I feel that having 60+ days of not drinking (apart from the 1 glass of Cava) have really given me a new perspective. Fingers crossed it carries on and I can have a new healthy, balanced relationship with drinking.

    Hope you're OK Satchmo!

Well done WBF. Finding the system that works best for you is the key to cutting down and being in control, I'm sure of it.

For those that are interested in our new-to-me dog, he's finally been bathed and his fur pruned by the rescue centre so he looks smaller, smarter and happier than his very unflattering photographs, but here he is; size-wise he's about 22 kgs - lowslung and solid. (The link may not work for very long.) He's adorable, loves everyone and even our Devil Cat has accepted him and tried to play with his waggy tail within an hour of them meeting. Early days, but the signs are excellent.
    Better is good enough.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
