Evening all, just checking in after this gorgeous saturday. 6/25 please Shaggy.
I've been doing a bit of thinking. I don't want to give up what I enjoy. Where is the control in giving something up that has caused problems? The control comes from being in the same situation but changing things there, not in the lifestyle, in my opinion. So I must say I have had a few beers tonight. I was working 06:00 - 14:00 today and with the weather like it was, coupled with my thinking, I've opened up some beers. This means I won't reach my current target, however, I'm going to amend my target to 22-23 days in the month. At this early stage, I'm going to allow myself weekends (Friday and saturday evenings) for a drink - a "cheat night" if you will, but anything throughout the week is a no-no, and I heartedly believe this is the best approach for me.
I hope everyone's had a good day. Keep it up everyone!0 -

That's what works for me. Last year I allowed myself Friday and Saturday and this year just Friday or Saturday. This doesn't apply if I'm on holiday or special occasions though.0 -
JimmyC, if moderating and limiting works for you it's the right solution for you. From hearing other people's comments on this thread, it works for most people very well. Good luck with whatever you decide gives you results you want.
Cutting it out completely is the right thing for me because alcohol was becoming a real problem and it was happening more frequently than I thought was reasonable. I also find it a great deal easier, now, than trying to control my drinking which I tried, very unsuccessfully for a long time. The early days were tough but possible with a shedload of support like being here, and once past them, it is now straightforward. I'm pleased to be able to report that despite an extremely stressful couple of days, not once did I think of having a drink. I'm really surprised by that; it's a massive change in my mindset of the last 20 years.

10/20 for tonight please. Posting early but pretty confident as had a few last night and still feeling a bit delicate. Since I've moderated it doesn't take much to have an effect on me now0

10/24 for me tonight. Yesterday I'm afraid I got a little worse for wear and although I enjoyed the evening, I did not enjoy today
I suspect that I'll be on the wagon for a good few days now...0
