Dog suddenly getting up through the night - Help!

Hi all,
We have a two year old x-breed dog who normally is very good at night. He normally sleeps on the bed with us, doesn't get up all through the night even for toilet, or he goes and sleeps in his crate. He was fine all over Christmas, but for the past few days he has been a real nightmare. He'll come on the bed as per usual, but fidget really badly, and then at times he'll try to actually go under the covers (which he has never, ever done). He'll then lay in-between my legs until we try and coax him out (very difficult) and bring him back up for some cuddles.
Night before last, he got up and went to the bedroom door no less than 4-5 times during the night (this hasn't happened since he was really small and needed to go toilet often). We take him outside and he either does a tiny tinkle or just runs around, often barking even though there's nothing to bark at.
Last night, he went to his crate and was fidgeting no end, just couldn't settle, but didn't want to go outside.
Now I'm thinking two things, the excitement of the Christmas period and the routine being broken slightly has made him go a bit 'off.' He's very much a creature of habit and if it's disturbed he doesn't get very happy about it. The other thing on my mind is that something is wrong with him, he's not feeling very well thus the need to get under the covers, and that we need to get him to the vet.
Thoughts?

Or could it just be all the wind?
My dog has been very woofy at bed time the last few nights, I think from things blowing around outside and unusual rattlings.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I'd agree that he may be unwell and a trip to the vet just to rule anything out may be a good idea, or it could just be the wind, my boy has been constantly hyper and doing zoomies for the last few days because the weather has got him riled up.

I'd considered this as well but it hasn't been so bad in our area, and the wind itself has been on and off for the past few weeks, behaviour has only just started in the past 4 days or so, just seems so out of character.0 -
The wind and rain have had our dog a bit jumpy of late, she's definitely off-form due to it.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Have you changed his food recently or given him anything he's not used to?

Some people only exist as examples of what to avoid....0 -
Could be a minor urinary infection - that's what the diagnosis was when my dog started to act a bit strangely. Didn't seem ill or particularly unhappy- just a bit restless. He didn't always pee when he went out, and sometimes just a dribble...
Lots of fun trying to take samples!0 -
My two have their moments, then will sleep like logs for weeks, sometimes needing to be prodded awake in a morning. They are both 10 years old.0

When my dog started doing this I discovered that it was the smoke alarm needing a new battery, you know that "cheeping" noise they make when the battery's run down?
I'm deaf so hadn't heard it. Poor dog seemed to think it was another animal in the house somewhere and got into a right state.
He was fine after I cottoned on and changed the battery0 -
I have thought of something. Recently we've been having a cat visitor (not a stray - looks like a chancer). Our bin is outside next to the living room window and he has been sat on it watching us/sleeping for the past week or so. Each time dog sees him he goes absolutely apesh*t barking and growing and throwing himself at the window. Perhaps this cat is making him nervous??0
