Kitchen appliances?

OP, I would consider going with a electric fan oven and a gas hob. Best of both worlds in my book! Fan ovens cook slightly quicker, but I like the instantly adjustable hit with a gas hob that you don't get on an electric hob.

Another vote for Appliances Online here too, would recommend them.

    You've not seen induction then?

I'm another advocate of gas oven. I will not have an electric oven by choice.

And I'd tried the most modern electric ovens there are. All the fancy, arm-and-a-leg ones from Miele etc etc and not one of them can produce a decent cake. Vital for me because I'm such a keen baker.

Cooking is more forgiving. You can chuck stuff together and hope for the best and still have something great at the end of it. Baking is less forgiving. It is science. And you need to be precise to produce good results. You have measure your ingredients precisely and you need the oven temperature to be precise. No domestic electric oven is as precise on temperature as gas.

At the moment I have an electric oven - not through choice, it came with this house and I hate it with a passion! I'm looking for a new oven myself and I shall be going back to my old favourites: Stones and New World (same manufacturer, different badges). They are pretty much the only ones left making them now. Probably because of less demand. Which is a sad indictment on the baking habits of todays society!!! :rotfl:

Thank you all for your advice. It looks like we might go for gas hob and electric oven as we need a build under and there arent much choice in gas ovens.

That's what we found. However, if you have space, getting a built in cooker higher up the wall is great. I really miss mine from the old house as it was so much easier to use.

So you don't live in an area affected by recent storms and power failure ? Neither do I but would not want to restrict myself to one fuel.

I agree. Sacrificed the possible pull out larder because I wanted the oven at eye level
