I have had £20 deposited into my halifax account today staing lbg loan returns. Does anyone know what it means?

Google suggests that IBG can be InterBank GIRO service:
http://www.hsbc.com.my/1/2/personal-banking/banking-services/interbank-giro.

If so this reference is pretty much meaningless.

I suspect the OP meant (and indeed said, in the body of their post) LBG, ie Lloyds Banking Group?
