Printer not connecting to laptop

Hi,
Looking for a bit of technical advice regarding my printer. I had it previously connected to my laptop using wi-fi but had not used it to print anything for a while. when I tried to print yesterday it was showing as offline when I looked under 'Devices and Printers' and would not print anything. I have tried updating the driver using the Epson website but was unable to do this as the laptop could not find the printer even though they were both connected to wi-fi. I temporarily switched off my anti virus and firewall and also tried uninstalling and re-installing but was getting an error message when it tried to connect tot he printer.
Does anyone have any ideas what I could try next?
Thanks in advance.

My Kodak does that sometimes if not used - have you tried the old trick of turning it off (the printer) and back on again - usually works for me!0

It is most likely not a problem with your PC. I would suggest a factory reset and attach it fresh to the network and then run the setup again. I am not sure which model of Epson you are using, but one of the following below should do a printer reset.
- Turn the printer off, and starting it while holding the Information button and start button down, at the same time for 10 seconds OR
- Reset the settings on the printer by holding down the Network info button as you turn the printer on.
You may have to run the setup program once after you finish the reset.
Hope that helps.0 -
The printer has probably grabbed a new IP address from your router's DHCP server. And your laptop probably has the printer added via IP so thinks it is not available due to the change in IP.
If you go to Printers on your laptop, remove it, then add a 'network' printer and it should find it again and it let you re-add it then print.
You can just change the IP address in the printer config but you'd have to login to your router and check the DHCP table or the printer might display it in the wifi status. I thought it might be easier to just remove and re-add the printer then how to check all that though..

Hi,
Thanks for all the advice above. The model I am using is an Epson Stylus SX425W.
Sparx - I have tried removing it from devices and Printers and tried to re add it but when it searches for available printers it cant find it even though both are connected to wi-fi (and the wi-fi light is on on my printer)
hpuse - restored my printer and tried to reinstall it but get the same problem that it can't find any printers when it gets to that part of the setupWins:Smyths Gift Vouchers, Sat Nav, £100 Next Gift Vouchers, £250 Dunelm Mill Gift Vouchers, £720 D&G Perfume, £200 Asda Vouchers, Johnnie Walker Gleneagles Tickets, Edinburgh Virgin Festival Fireworks Tickets, Givenchy Dahlia Noir Perfume Set, Long Weekend in St Petersburg, Russia, £250 Selfridges Vouchers, £3000 Family Trip To LAPLAND!!!!0 -
Have you switched the printer off and on?1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
Try going into your routers page and find the IP that is assigned to the printer, make a note of this. On your laptoptop, go you devices and printers or pritners and faxes depending on what version of windowes your running and add printer, go to "Add a Network printer" select the "my printer isnt listed" option then "Add by TCP/IP Address"
See if this helps.

I could guarantee that my Kodak printer did this to me all the time, or so I thought. It turns out the router seems to be the problem, (BT homehub 3). Try turning the router off and leaving for a minute then turn on, wait for it to settle down and re-send the documents to the printer. Always works for me but very annoying.0
