Biasi Boiler advice

Options
Hi,
I hope someone can help me out.
I have recently moved into an end terrace 2 bedroom house with an old back boiler system. I want to replace this with a combi boiler, so I can get a decent fireplace put in.

The cheapest quote I have had for removing the back boiler and putting in a Biasi 28 combi boiler under the stairs is £1300.

Is it worth spending a couple extra hundred quid to get a Worcester or Valiant boiler instead?

I am not planning on staying in the property longer than 2 years, but don’t want to buy something that will pack in 12 months.

What would people suggest?

That is an absurd price. British Gas would be looking for about £5K and most other installers would price at about 60% of that.
  • The £1300 quote is from a chap who is corgi registered. The most expensive quote so far for removing the back boiler and for fitting a Vaillant boiler in the bathroom upstairs is £2200.

I'd just like to know if it's worth spending the extra on the boiler if I'm not planning on staying there that long.

    Cheers

To be honest, unless the system is comprehensively cleansed prior to fitting the new boiler it will only last a matter of months, regardless of what make it is.

It is generally accepted when converting open-vented systems the most efficient way of cleansing is to power flush the system.

If this is done methodically and systematically it will take an experienced person the best part of a day to do. BG will charge £650 (ish) for this, independants will charge less.

I would be interested to hear if any of your quotes included provision for pre-installation cleansing and post-installation protection of both the primary and secondary heat exchangers.

Anyway, to answer your original question, I would not fit a Biasi. If I were fitting a budget boiler then I would probably go for a Baxi-Main HE - very good IMO. Vaillants are far better, but would the buyer of your property know the difference? it's a white box as far as most people are concerned.
  • Thank you for the advice. I will steer clear of the Biasi in that case.
I have a couple more people coming to quote on the work, so I will see what they come back with. Also- thanks for the advice on cleansing the system. I will check the quotes to see if that is included.
