CIMA/ACCA/ICAEW all buy you a passport [closed shop] what you do it is up to you, your luck and your ability - good money if you are skilled and cope with the stress further up tree. The exams are tough but certainly easier than becoming a doctor. I think you used to be able to take ACCA or CIMA full time at Uni, both have advantages - ACCA more Global/Financial - CIMA more Management based, both offer a route to MBA as well.

Chewmylegoff has nailed it for accountancy. Having experience of the Big 4 and the graduate recruitment process, an accountancy degree is not required. 320 ucas points and a 2:1 is standard though, so beware of that.
I read economics at BSc and MSc and doughtnut is right - outside of London there is very little in the way of jobs. You might get into the government economic service and work in a department based in the regions, and there are one or two niche consultancies in oxford/cambridge (e.g. Oxera), but everyone else is London based. That being said, if you're mad enough to love economics (which, trust me, you need to be to want a career in it) then you're going to be happy enough to move to London anyway.0 -
many of the major accountancy firms no longer require a University degree for entrance.
They take on A level students for training as well (a slightly lower pay grade but still good ie 20+ and a slightly slower rate of exams) so if you have A levels apply.
Experience with numbers, math and bookkeeping are helpful here.0
