so I recently bought an iMac, and need a program to rip DVDs. I used to use iDVD, it was perfect. But Apple in their wisdom have done away with it.
Can anyone recommend a decent, free alternative?
or even better, a way of getting iDVD onto Mavericks?
I downloaded Mylife DVD Creator from the mac app store, but unless i pay it's going to put some hideous watermark on my video on the DVD...

If you still have your old Mac you could copy iDVD over from there. Either use migration assistant to copy your old user account over to your new machine or simply drag the application icon from the applications folder on your old mac to your new machine together with the iDVD folder in Library- Application Support (this has all the iDVD themes).
You should be able to connect to your old Mac either by direct ethernet cable or wireless if sharing the same network (command k - browse) from your new mac.
Alternatively iLife 09 discs are available on eBay for prices that appear to vary quite considerably but some have gone for as little as £5. If taking this route I think you will temporarily need to reset your computer clock to some date before 2011 to trick the system into allowing you to install this old copy of iDVD. You can reset the clock to normal after installation. I have no experience of doing this but is something I read about when looking into something else recently.
At the end of the day you still have iMovie. Can you share your creations from there?0 -
