I thought it was free until your contract ends in april
No !
Existing BT Privacy with Caller Display customers can pre-register to get the service free for 12 months (a new 12 month line rental contract applies). Otherwise BT Privacy with Caller Display will cost £1.75 a month from January 4. The 12 month free product will continue to be available for sale after January 4.

Just received an eMail from BT:
But I haven't registered! I didn't want another 12 month contract so just accepted they will charge £1.75 monthly. Thanks for registering to get BT Privacy with Caller Display free for 12 months.
We've processed your order and you'll get it free from 2 January 2014.
As part of this offer, a new 12-month line rental contract will also apply from this date.
End of contract and I'm off. I thought TalkTalk were bad but at least they didn't try and fleece me at every turn.If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -
I paid for my BT line rental for 12 months in advance at the beginning of December, but I notice on my monthly bill this time I have still been charged for caller ID, even though it is free with 12 month contracts. I went online and chatted to a customer support employee, who confirmed that it should be free. He ordered a new contract for caller ID and is going to refund what I have already paid on my next bill.
The purpose of this post is just to advise BT customers who have paid the 12 month rental in advance to check your bill !! If it has happened to me, how many countless others will be paying this charge without realising. £1.75 does not make a noticeable difference to your bill to make it stand out as an error. But BT must be raking in thousands of £1.75's per month! Please check!
can anybody confirm if caller display and 1571 WAS included in line rental saver 12 month contract taken out last may
BT online chat say no but I am sure it was but have no records to check0 -
There was no charge for these items last May. (Assuming you had BT privacy).
So it wasn't "included" as part of LRS, everyone got them FOC.
No longer!0 -

You actually had to sign up to get the caller ID free. I did this in December and haven't been chargedtravelover0 -
Tried to opt out on-line by unticking the box but was unable to complete the request unless i ticked a box at the bottom "Bring all your calls back to BT" What a bunch of cowboys! Had to contact them by phone and the guy wanted to sell me another product and was far from pleased when i refused. Can't believe i've been with this shower over 40 years.
I had that when I tried to remove the 1571 option. I use BT for line rental and Virgin for phone calls & broadband. I want to stay with Virgin so phoned up BT to have the 1571 removed and wanted it confirmed that this was the only thing that was going to happen. It them showed up on my BT account as a "new order" which would be completed by Midnight 27th Jan. Today (28th Jan) I have got an e-mail from Virgin confirming they are cancelling my account as requested!! I tried phoning them on the number listed on the e-mail but got the message that the number was not recognised! So phoned used another number and was told that my account was not being closed and to ignore the e-mail. But its a bit worrying!! And all of these companies it takes so many "helpful" options before you actually get a real person to talk you. I still feel the guy from Virgin was confused as he kept telling me to contact BT if I wanted the 1571 service!! AAAAAAH!0 -

What do you gain these days with having your line with BT and your calls and broadband with Virgin National.0 -
Checked my january bill...
Charged for both 1571 and Caller ID. I was told I would not have to pay these charges last year when if I signed up for a 12 month contract with line rental saver.
Just phoned to complain about this and spoke to Nagesh. He said he couldn't do anything about the 1571 fee except cancel the 1571 service. However, he did refund and cancel the caller ID charge for the duration of my 12 month phone contract.0 -
Also just checked to find that I was being charged £1.75 for the Caller ID.
I have Line Rental Saver which I thought was a 12 month contract but it appears that this isn't the case.0 -
BT are jokers (on my latest bill) saying BT Privacy* and 1471 are included FREE !!
*Thanks for nothing!
Also they take the DD rather swiftly now!! Most companies give you a fortnight's notice. (BT swipe it 8 days later)0
