I decant a lot of my packet food into them like pasta, pasta shapes, half packets of mixes go in smaller jars, i cut out the label/instructions and stick it either inside the lid or on the jar so i know what to do when using again.
I also bought markers for glass from l*dl, now i can write the date they went in and know roughly how long to keep using/
Also use for gifts, bake bath salts paint the lid, tie on a little spoon and spong and makes a nice little gift.
Like others i store a load of odds and ends too, (and too much craft stuff!)Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

If you're not saving them for anything in particular, why not just put them in the recycling?0

If you don't want them, please call a nearby primary school & ask. Odds on there will be a member of staff with you pronto!
It's still recycling, just more people get to have fun...0 -
Some great ideas here. I use mustard jars for replacement containers in a yogurt maker, and for dried herbs this coming summer.
I like the screw jar thingy.0 -
As someone with isshews about hoarding, and a particular love of glass jars, I have to be careful in this area.
I prefer jam jars over sauce jars for storage of herbs and similar kitchen bits and wash up the few sauce jars I use and get them out into the recycling on the same day.
I just recylced a jam-jar I was using as a pen jar, which wasn't idea as the eraser was in the bottom and hard to reach and the whole thing in danger of hitting the deck. Bought a 29p pencil case from the chazzer to do the same job and am much happier.
Such a relief not to be courting the risk of chasing glass shards over a chunk of my living room floor...............Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I use a Cranberry Jelly jar for my Fajita mix (screw top makes it air tight.) I have some really huge ones which I use for Lentils / pasta - tiny soup ones / Rice.
BUT I do have to be careful for hoarding but I gather them and go to the recycling center on a really duff day and aim them into the container (the one with holes to put things through - make sure no one is on the other side. Take out your annoyances
Oh remembered another use a jar for slips of papers for names that need work on for my Family History - pick one out and gives me a little project for an hour or two (don't tell hubby even 3 or 4 or 5 hours!)
Thanks for the tips everyone.0 -
I use them for storing just about everything. I've just sorted all my beads into different colours and put each into a jar, looks quite pretty as well as being useful! I used to keep my change for parking in a jam jar in the car too, it does rattle a bit tho!Aug £10 a day £0/£10000

I put some mustard jars on Freecycle recently, snapped up by the scouts, beavers and rainbows. Had to ask what were the rainbows.lol0

Put leftover wallpaper paste in one (plus a small brush) and keep it for touching up those wallpaper corners that always peel away after a few months.0
