ongoing problem with bathroom company

I have had an ongoing problem with a bathroom i had fitted back in May2013 which as a result of - I didnt pay the outstanding balance. I finally received my electrical compliance certificates in the week leading up to Xmas so decided I would pay the company. I sent a cheque by registered post on 24/12/2013 but it is still showing as being held by the post office. I rang them and they said a card would have been left with the company asking them to collect the letter if they had tried to deliver it but the office was closed over the holiday. I have been checking every day but it is still the same. Two days ago i sent an email to the company advising them that I had sent this and asking them to collect it from the post office but have had no response. I do not want to ring them as because of the various problems and upset it caused I do not wish to speak to them. I suppose the next step would be to cancel the cheque as the Post Office advised that if it wasnt collected by 12th January it would be classed as a missing item. I just cant understand this company.

  • Did you not put a return address on the envelope? If you did then it will be returned to you if the company doesn't collect it from the post office or arrange re-delivery within the set timescale.

As for why the company hasn't collected it - they may be busy, they may have lost the card, they may have closed for the holiday season/due to a family emergency...who knows? Just set the money aside and be prepared to pay them when they ask for it.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
