HELP! Bad credit and need new account!!

Hi all,
I currently bank with Barclays and have done for many years. I was a student for many years and worked part time so was on a low income and unfortunately got into debt with barclays via my overdraught facility. I got into a bit of a debt spiral and was late on many payments for DDebits. So now I have a low credit rating and cannot seem to get another bank account!
I would like to claim back my bank charges with Barclays (amass to about £1200!) and also clear the bad credit points that go with it but cannot as i don't have another bank account to move to and don't seem to be able to open one!!
Can anybody offer any advice? Perhaps there is a bank who will be sympathetic to my situation? (doubtful!)
Thanks in advance,
Dan :mad::mad::mad:
