Moved Abroad

Hi all,

My daughter moved abroad early last year and had a credit card on 0% interest which has now run out. She still has quite a lot of money owing on it and needs to be able to pay it off as best she can. She still has a UK bank account so will she be able to apply for another card or can anybody tell me what her best options are? Thanks

  • I am not sure if your meaning she wan't to pay it off or is wanting to balance transfer?

Is she in a positon to make payments to it via her UK bank account?

She can apply, but she will have to lie that she is a UK resident and give a UK address to stand a chance of getting accepted.

The best option is just to pay the debt off ASAP instead of keeping transferring it.

If she is resident abroad (e.g. not just travelling) then she has very little chance of being accepted for a new UK credit card.

Presumably she doesn't have any other UK credit cards accounts still open (but dormant/nil balances). If she did she could try seeing if they would offer her any balance transfer deal as an existing customer.

If she cannot get any new 0% deal then the best option will just be for her to ensure she is paying as much as possible each month to clear it as soon as she can.

Only other options would be trying to obtain cheaper credit where she lives now or possibly see if a relative would be prepared and able to try to get a new 0% deal and move the debt across to a card in their name card (obviously they become legally responsbile for the debt and repayments so not very advisable for them).

  • Does she have an income into her UK account?
