Company Car Redundancy Query

Options
Hi,

Need some advice. I was made redundant just before Christmas. I had recently got a new company car (Around September time) of which I had around £600 in added extras. (Never again)

Now, because I was made redundant just a few months after receiving the car, I feel like I have not had sufficient chance to get use out of the car and the added extras, through no fault of my own, do I have a case to ask for the £600 to be reimbursed?

Thanks in advance.

I expect the answer will be no as it was your choice to add the extras. The second hand value of the car is probably not any more than the same car without the extras (depending on what you chose).

Hang on, the car belongs fo your employers(or their lease firm whatever) but you have invested your own cash into the vehicle?

Sorry to hear of your redundancy, did you hand over the money yourself for the extras or do you have a monthly allowance which your company uses to pay the monthly lease of the car?

With my company cars it has always been the case that the extras I specified were added to the total cost of the vehicle and I paid a small additional some through my wages in addition to the monthly allowance that was paid to the lease owners.

  • Hi,

Thanks for replying. I paid for the extras with a few cheques, the company pay for the car through a leasing company.
  • Hi LC - unfortunately I doubt you would be entitled to reclaim the extras you added to the car - you may want to speak to them however and see if they will.

If it is through a leasing company, be very careful as they may charge for removing extras which weren't part of the original specification.

Some lease companies charge a termination fee - but as you are being made redundant this should be covered by your company.

Lastly, a quick word of advice is ensure there are no stone chips etc - pay a small fee to get these repaired otherwise a lot of lease companies tend to charge exorbitant rates to repair
