Car check required if buying from main dealer?
Options
I'm going to buy a 1-yr old used car from Suzuki franchised dealer.
Do I need to carry out HPI/history check for it?
I know I can have it checked for £10 but just wondering whether it is something I should do even if buying from main dealer.

Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Ask them if they did a HPI check when they bought it. If it was a demo and they're the only owner, there should be no need.0 -
You could ask but i don't think you would have any problem with a main dealer, that's why their prices are often higher and they have a reputation to maintain.

They said all their cars are HPI clear. It was owned by a private individual earlier though.
Probably I'd rather have it checked anyway, just peace of mind.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
ask the dealer for the hpi certificate, they are know to tell porkies now and again, remember these are salesmen. all they want is your money.0

i actually backed out of a deal with a main dealer once after the hpi check said they didn't actually officially own the car yet. they were quick to say it was only a formality but i didn't think they should be selling a car that wasn't thiers.
they should be able to show you their own hpi check details for free though they may not give you a copy to keep.0 -
Personally I'd pay the £10, its a small price to pay to prevent your new purchase from possibly being towed away if any finance is still due on it from the previous owner. Look on it as piece of mind.
I never really trust any car salesman, be it main dealer or independant. If they can show you a HPI certificate then it would be a good, but still people have been known to forge such things...Lack of money is the root of all evil.

The car should still be under warrentee if its 1 year old as long as it drives ok and seems ok to you then it probably is. Plus Jap cars in terms of quality and reliability are ahead of the germans so I wouldnt worry too much about it
Id do a HPI check though just to be sure.0 -
Not sure about a main dealer but an independent trader was trying to sell us a Cat B write-off that shouldn't ever be put back on the road!!! He tried to tell us the data check must be wrong!!!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0
