Why do I have to pay to keep my excel and outlook?

My wife's net book has a version of work, excel and powerpoint that were free, but not the latest version, but quite frankly it has more functionality than 99% of people actually need or care about. Have a look in your program list again.0

I originally got Office 2003 Pro using the HUP process several years ago. (Still have the DVD). Unfortunately my employer (a multi-Billion dollar global corporation) dropped out of HUP a few years ago.
But I now use Office 2007 Enterprise which I "found somewhere".0 -

Starter Edition worked well for many people I know. Sadly no longer offered with new systems.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
