moving house
Hello,
We have 2 houses at the moment - one we are going to sell and another we are going to be letting - they are both ripe for changing utility suppliers;
What happens to the contract on the one we sell, do we have to take it with us or does it remain with the buyers
& pretty much the same question for the one to let?
Thanks
Tom

The present supplier to the "Sell" house continues to supply the new owners, who must register themselves as the new occupants with that supplier - On the day you move out, you must give that supplier notice you have moved, the meter readings on that day and the address they should send their Final Bill to
At your new home you will have to take on the supplier already supplying that adddress, once registered with them you are free to Switch to another supplier
The "Let" properties present supplier continues to supply, and will bill you as the Landlord until such time as a tenant moves in and takes over responsibility
for the Utility Bills - It's very much in your own interest to read the meters on the days when tenants move in and out0 -
Hypothetically if the tariffs are fixed, what happens then with regards to the buyer or tenant, can they cancel the contract and choose a supplier or tariff for themselves?0

When the householder of the dwelling moves home, any 'Fixed' Utility contract the householder had is disolved and no penalty charges can be applied.
The incoming Owner/Tenant to that home must use the existing Gas/Elec supplier, but will be put on that suppliers 'Standard', ( Expensive ), tariff which is variable with no penalties, until they either sign up for a different tariff or change supplier.0
