Kind of posting 2 different questions here - please answer whichever bits you can.
1. Has anyone any experience with getting their dog registered as a support dog for emotional/mental health issues- believe you can in the US and allows dog to go with you in settings you would find difficult (remember not all disabilities are obvious at a glance).
2. Can you apply and receive disability student allowance even if receive DLA (HRC & HRM).
Thank you and please can we keep this on-topc and save wider discussions for a different thread...I dont want to elaborate on my situation.

It doesn't matter what benefits you receive in regards to disabled students allowance. It's not means tested either.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

And with regard to the dog it has to be registered through a charity, there are charities who allow you support to train your own dog but their lists are closed at the moment.
We are jumping the gun a bit and starting to get our dog up to speed with the training and obedience side of things so she's doing kennel club good citizen bronze just now, charity wants them at silver or better before they can qualify as an assistance dog plus they need to be trained to give 3 or more supports, ours seizure alerts (naturally - we never trained that into her), can get help and fetch medication.0 -
There is a UK charity looking to provide support dogs for mental health disabilities. They are still at the planning stage and have a full waiting list of prospective service users. I contacted them and they replied to say that a dog trained to the Kennel Club Silver award should be able to provide some of the assistance that a mentally ill person would need but is not allowed into venues where dogs are banned. They are still some way from providing an assistance dog for mental health problems.
I have trained my dog to Gold level and find her a great support to me.

My girl is at KC silver and we will go on for gold. She's a rescue, but she's saved me just as much as I saved her. can you tell me the name of the mental health charity please.0

Ours is a rescue too! Glad to hear yours managed silver ok, we aren't sure how ours would cope but she's doing well so far.
We need to have her certified for restaurants and things because I don't just have seizures at home but the KC award is good to have anyway even if the charities never get round to reopening their lists.0
