No, that's not how you work it out. See post from Annisele.

Yes, you can do that. The transfer must be within 90 days of exercise.

You'll get about £25k tax free this tax year and then about another £13k next tax year.

When I've done this, I've sent the share certificate to my ISA provider, asked them to transfer a full S&S ISA allowance of the shares into my ISA and leave the rest in my trading account. I then sell enough to make a full CGT allowance, take out the money, and then go to Oddbins.

I also have the additional wrinkle of then asking for some of the shares to be moved to my wife's trading account and she uses her CGT allowance.

Thank You!, you have completely clarified what I can do. Many Thanks to you and Annisele as well as others who have provided input to this thread.

    Thank you.
  • Dont forget there is a risk of the shareprice moving significantly one way or the other waiting 2-3 years to get the proceeds out.

(Although unless its a big drop it would still be less than the CGT you would have to pay to cash them all now.)

One of my (unvested) SAYEs dropped in value by 70% in just a few months.

If your employee sharedealing policy allows it (mine doesn't) then you can take a short position with someone like IGG but you *must* understand the tax situation on this, how dividends are handled, and about margin covering.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.
