Im wanting to go out there on either 16th or 17th October for the england game. Does anybody know what airlines fly there for an affordable price?

BMI and Transaero (they code share), BA and Aeroflot are the only airlines that fly direct. My hubby is currently working in Moscow and he recently purchased a direct return with BMI through Expedia as it was cheaper than buying from BMI.
You can get there usually cheaper with Swiss via Zurich or Geneva. Also Air Baltic go via Riga, and also German Wings (have to purchase 2 tickets, London-Germany then Germany-Moscow) but the connecting times are not great. Expedia also bring up deals with LOT, Lufthansa, KLM, Alitalia, Czech, but none have beaten the deals from Swiss when we have travelled.
We are off to Moscow from London on Swiss in 4 weeks time and it is costing £149 return each ticket via Zurich.
Good luck with the visa application. It can take ages, even when you are dependants of a UK diplomat, waiting for endorsement letter from Russia. The Russian Embassy in London however have been ultra efficient once the paperwork from Russia has arrived, and we waited only a week for our visas.0

I haven't found any direct flights around the England - Russia match for less than £700. If you can't afford that, there's some more airlines worth checking - Air Berlin, Malev.
If you are going on your own and not as part of a package, the airports in Moscow are a long way from the centre of Moscow and Luzhniki stadium where the game is being held. Expect the journey from both Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo to take 2 hours. You can get from Sheremyetevo for around £2 by public transport but even my husband who speaks fluent Russian did not find this journey an easy one last week as you have to get a public bus and know where the bus stops, then you get the metro. A taxi will set you back at least £20 in the day time. You can get from Domodedovo for around £3 by public transport but again you have to be capable of finding the train station amongst the renovations currently going on at that airport. A taxi will cost you around £30 in the day time.
I hear hotels are formidably expensive in Moscow too, but hubby has his own flat so we don't have that cost. If you are after a hotel near to the game, I'd go for one on "Leninsky Prospekt". There are 3 biggies there - Central House of Tourists, Salyut and Sputnik (has great Indian restaurant on one of the top floors with great views apparently). One website which gets rave reviews for booking all things Russian is https://www.waytorussia.net0

I've just been having a nose on Kayak.co.uk and you can get non direct flights to moscow for around £200-250. Thats going out on the Tuesday and back on the Friday. I went there 4 years ago to watch Wales and I thought it was a wonderfull city. However on the day of the game the mood changed and my friend and I almost got caught by a huge gang of skinheads. We stayed in the G & R Hostel Asia which was a long way from the city centre but it was fine. One word of warning, get your visa nice and early. Ours turned up the day before we were due to fly. This is my quest, to follow that star, no matter how hopeless, no matter how far.0

Thanks people. I think I'll probably opt for the daytrip. Yes its £400 but at least the flights are direct and they sort out my visa etc too and transfers to and from the stadium. If I were to get in-direct flights (ive seen a few flying ryanair to berlin, and then on to moscwo with a german airline) I would still end up spending around £400-ish with al hotels/visas/taxis etc so I will opt for the daytrip.0
