E-on threatening letters to "The Occupier"
Hi All,
Was after some advice, my mum recently moved into a new flat and started receiving eon bills dated to before she had moved in under the name "the occupier".
She phoned Eon on multiple occasions to let them know but the letters kept on coming eventually stating that legal action would be taken.
She got scared and paid the bill (£21) against my advice, I know its not much but its the principle that they have intimidated her into paying.
I am going to phone them tomorrow morning about trying to get the debt cancelled and money back but not sure what my rights are here.
Any help is appreciated.

It is standard practice for all companies to address bills to 'The Occupier' if they don't know the name of the occupant.
Your mother should have contacted the supplier(presumably E-ON) on the day she moved in and given them her name and the meter readings.
If she did take the meter readings and the £21 bill is for gas/electricity/Daily Standing Charge before she moved in, then an Email/letter to E-On will probably get the £21 refunded.0 -

Yes she did contact E-ON on the day she moved in and setup a new account + gave meter readings.

Be easy if can prove wasn't at addressDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

As you mother has her own account in her name, it sounds like the bill was for the previous occupier who moved out and and didn't provide a forwarding address.
We rely on customers informing us when the move in and out and ask for the forwarding address to send their final bill to.
If they don't we have to send the bills to last know address we have for them.
We can put a note on the account to say it's not correct for debt collection purposes though.
If you need me to take a look, please let me know.
Do you have DPA to discuss the account on your mothers behalf?

Hi,
Yes she phoned Eon on 2 separate occasions to provide a forwarding address for the previous tenant but the agent said it wasn't possible to adjust this on the system and the letters kept coming.
What is the best process to attempt to get a refund on the bill paid, Tried on the phone but gave up each time waiting 15-20mins?

A debt has to be attached to an actual entity, be it a company, a corporation or a person.
The "occupier" is not a legal person and any request for money for the occupier can be safely ignored until they do write and request payment in the name of an entity.Be happy...;)0
