Welcome Break Booking through late rooms

On Saturday, I made a booking for 3 nights at a Welcome Break hotel through late rooms.

After entering my details on the laterooms website, I completed the booking at £25 per night and received a confirmation page and follow up email

On arrival tonight, I was told that my debit card payment had failed and that if I wanted to stay, I would have to pay double (£50 per night). I paid this under protest and have now written to both Welcome Break and Laterooms to complain.

What exactly are my rights? I gave my debit card details in good faith and on arrival still paid for the stay in full.

Good faith? You either had the dough or you didnt or there was a issue with the merchant or your bank

The end date on my card was incorrect. I got a confirmation email though

Did you give the wrong end date for the card, or did they make the mistake?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

Who entered that end date incorrectly? and what do the terms and conditions say in regards to failed payments? Does it indicate your reservation is automatically cancelled when payment can't be taken (I suspect it does, therefore your stay is entirely separate from the booking you made and the reservation email you got).

Who knows who made the mistake?

I received a confirmation email and am a regular guest at this hotel

If you are a regular guest, you'd be better booking direct with them. Talk to the reception desk and then call them to make bookings.
