I think you need to realise that the way your post read was such that pound notes appeared in front of your eyes. Giving to charity is your personal choice but we dont do this job to not earn money. If we get a big estate which contrary to how the TV prog makes it look is not that often its a bonus for us.

Its not unusual for someone who when they find the value of the estate greed kicks in and they want to cancel the contract. You also have to realise that we only get a percentage of the shares that sign if only 2 or 3 out of say 10 people sign we actually end up losing money.

But you know what I come here and give my advice freely. I dont tout for work here and this is I suppose my charity donation because I give my opinion based on years of research and experience.

Just out of interest do you know how much of the money you donate actually goes to the charity to fund research or help people who are in need? I think you would be surprised to learn that 10p per pound actually goes to do the work you are hoping to help. The rest goes to pay 5 figure sums to the directors etc

great ''advice'' rob you see I earn 15,000 a year I keep 10000 and what's left goes to charity 2 of whom I do voluntary work for and another I raise cash for so with my 3rd of the share was going to split between them and that's why I was ''greedy'' for more, as every penny I can get for people who need it counts, this gives me great pleasure. maybe when somebody asks for help you should try to help instead of shouting your mouth off which is where you seem to get your pleasure from.

Am not sure where you feel Rob is shouting his mouth off?? He has given you facts based on the information you provided.

I afraid that I have to agree with Rob, from the information in your first post , it 'appears' you found out the true extent of the estate. Saw the ££signs and then went kerching!!!!!
While I applaud you for your charitable work, when you signed the document agreeing to the heir Hunter taking a % you must have been ok with the terms. It's hardly right you or other beneficiaries start moaning now as the heir hunters cut is bigger than you believe due to the size of the estate. (And I don't believe they find out the value themselves until later in the process)

Surely it is better to have some ££ than none? And without the heir hunters you would have nothing while the treasury(govt) would've had the lot.

You are correct in the majority of cases. There are some we do know the values of and these are usually given by solicitors. We can have a good guess at the value of estates however that is all it is. We find out the value once the treasury accept the claim and even then we dont get the final figure because the treasury take off costs that they have incurred first.

    Hi all,
My mum received a letter today from heir trace on behalf of Friends Life asking about my father who passed away in Feb last year. As far as we know he didn't have any pensions or insurances, however could it mean that there could be assets to claim?
We have filled in the form and returned it.

Yes it is possible. They dont charge a commission or anything as they usually get paid by the company they are acting for. If in doubt ring them and ask the usual questions.
