Ford Key Cut Help

Hi all. I have an 03 ford focus with only one key. My main problem is that key is worn down to the point that I can't open the bonnet. I can just about start the engine with this key and I have to use the fob to lock/unlock it.

Anyway, I am looking to sell the car and to do so I need another key but obviously cutting one from my existing worn down key will be no good. I need a working key and don't know the best way to go about it???

Any help will be much appreciated, thanks, Pete

Had the same problem with a 03 focus just took the key to a local key cutting shop and £30 later I had I new key, they read the code on the key and just made a new one. This was a couple of years ago so the price might have gone up a bit.

A decent locksmith will be able to cut a key from the chassis number.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

My local Timpsons were able to cut me a basic key for £22 but that was last year.
It won't remotely lock/unlock my car but will get me out of an emergency.
I believe they were able to do this by obtaining a code from the original key.

Im looking at buying a car, Audi possibly, £3000, 03/04. All this 'only one key' worries me. IS it easy to just pop in somewhere and get one cut ? (so long as it opens door/starts ignition, that's OK), or would you have to go down a complicated main dealer/£150 route....?

    thanks

Last March I bought a Volvo with a very worn key - after some googling I got in touch with http://www.carkeyhelp.co.uk - the guy I spoke to was really helpful and was able to identify my key and cut a perfect replacement from a photo of the key I had. The replacement was delivered the next day for about £21 all in :-)

I was really impressed with the service I received and have been shamelessly recommending them ever since!

EDIT: Just looked on the website and it looks like they will supply a '03 Focus transponder key for £18.50 delivered cut from a photo of your key.

Obviously you would have to programme the transponder yourself - you used to be able to do this on Fords using the red "master" key - not sure if this is the same on yours?

You'd do best to ask on some Audi forums - for some cars transponder keys are easy to programme yourself, for some a good auto locksmith can programme them relatively cheaply, and for others you will have to let the dealer bend you over for an astonishing sum of money.

£20 /£30 to cut a key? I got mine off the net for £8 and £2 to have it cut.

Try a main dealer, They might not be as dear as you think.

Dont buy a modern car with only 1 key though. Make sure its got the full set of keys.
