Regarding the testing of electrical wiring etc, I'm a housing assn tenant. Lived in the house since newly built 24 years ago. There is no rcd that I am aware of, i use a plug in one for garden appliances.
We have annual gas safety checks but have never had an electrical one. Isnt it a legal requirement for landlords?

We own a caravan which we sublet and have to have landlords safety checks for gas AND electric done annually.
How do I get my landlord to check my premises........do I just have to wait until something goes horribly wrong?

An electrical safety test is not a legal requirement like a gas safety test is, however a landlord has a statutory duty to maintain appliances under their control.

You could politely ask when any electrical items belonging to the landlord were last checked.

when i do a test i usually recommend retest after 5 years

According to the housing act retests should be every couple of years on rental properties
