I'm not a free-loader, I've been unemployed for a week because my previous work was only temporary and it has come to an end.
Thank you all for your responses.
The reason I have been given 'notice' is because my dad is selling the house and is moving to Italy.0 -
Ah.
Have you looked at sparerooms.co.uk ?
Is this access course similar to a foundation course? I know that they will fund foundation courses so you may be in luck.
One thing though, do you plan on giving up your job when you do this course?2014 Target;

You can do a load of paid work whilst doing an access course. I did 2 and half days a week when I did mine and it was related to my uni course so win win. It didn't interfere with the access course at all. With income from your girlfriend you should both manage for a year. Good luck!:)0

I agree. I think you need to focus on getting a job first so you can secure a roof over your head, THEN work out how you can study in order to get in to uni.0

As said above, credit to you for wanting to study to improve your future choices. Is it not possible for your Dad to help you slightly (even as a loan) so that you have somewhere to live whilst studying? May not be possible of course. Does he/they realise what you are worrying about?
Another option may be to be a lodger with a family as this could work out cheaper and be more supportive for you. You would still need to work as well to cover the rent but may not be as bad as renting alone or with girlfriend . I vaguely remember reading about a scheme where young people lodged with elderly folk very cheaply in return for keeping them company a bit and doing some light chores - not sure where you find out about this.
Even once you get as far as uni, you will probably still need to work too as rent and living costs will easily wipe out the loan.
I hope you find a solution so that you can study."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

Hi,
for over 24's - I know not much help right now - but worth a look..
you may be eligible for this loan (you aren't sorry thought you were older): https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-loans/further-information
which I think is for access courses....
not a lot of help for this September - but depending when your birthday is maybe the year after...

Depending on what you want to study you may not need a full-time access course. My local uni for example does Access in the evenings. You have to complete 2 modules and can complete it over one or two years (eg one module /evening or two). My son is currently studying on it - and I'm actually at uni with people who took it last year. Total cost £100. A lot cheaper than a fulltime Access course too and lectuerers are all from the local uni so are literally teaching you exactly what you need unlike some FE colleges.
Access is very do-able over one year and fulltime working if you are focused (as is degree study and fulltime work-I work fulltime although not Monday to Friday 9-5 and can handle a full uni workload as well. As for where you are going to live .......surely the question is the same if you're working full-time or studying and working. Talk to Shelter about your options- although with several months to go you have time to find a private rental.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

If you get into uni then you should be eligible for student loans which will pay for your accom while you study.

he knows that, it's the time before he starts uni he is worried about, doing a foundation course before the degree.0 -
Sorry for this sad news but its been reported today that George Osborne is planning welfare Cuts and one of them is Housing Benefit for under 25s so Op won't be entitled to it when and if it comes into force.0
