Rejected twice in 2 months

Hi all,

So I applied for the Luma credit card (4% cash back in supermarkets) back when it first came out, beginning of November-ish. To my surprise, I was rejected, despite having near perfect credit (multiple late payments on a credit card in late 2008/early 2009).

No big deal, as I still had my Aqua card (3% cash back everywhere) and would re-apply in a few months. The problem is, they're now stopping the Aqua card and closing accounts, effective January 22nd. So with that in mind, I applied for an Amazon credit card for the effectively 1% cash back. I have just found out I have been rejected.

Based on the recent rejections, I decided to get a credit report and everything is in good standing order.

I have a credit card 0.5% cash back from Capital One that I was waiting for the reward period (24th Jan) before closing. I am now re-considering this as my recent rejection from Amazon means I won't have a cashback credit card at all.

My questions are:

1) My Capital One card has been dormant for months as I was waiting for the reward date to roll around. Should I now keep this open and use this, or close it and use my bank's debit card and hope I get accepted next time when I apply for another cash back credit card?

2) When should I apply for a new credit card? The credit searches are 13/11/2013 and 03/01/2014.

3) I am struggling to find out why I was rejected. I get really fed up with the standard responses - the Amazon one was:

"We reviewed your application using a credit scoring system which takes into account the details that you have provided, information from the credit reference agency and our own customer experience."

This is meaningless and every rejection provides the same information - telling you nothing really. It really annoys me, but I don't want to turn this in to a rant though! What I really want to know is why. Is it because they wouldn't make any money off me because I pay off in full every month? I guess I'll never know. I suppose what I'm trying to figure out is why I was rejected so that I can either avoid these types of cards, cards I'm not going to get, or change (even if temporarily) so that I would look more attractive to these lenders. Without being given a reason why though, I can't look into changing that.

:)If it's a case of third time lucky, don't forget to use the Cash Back website, if you are succesful you could get £25.00 for your trouble! I give this company Five Stars, no chasing the cashback, payment made within 10 days, if you follow the terms and conditions.

I keep getting rejected by www.noodle.co.uk - free credit reports. :(I've used up my cashback free trials for the rest!

Harsh words and poor reasoning never settle anything
  • Ah, I did the cash back stuff for credit reports quite a while ago. I tried again semi-recently but they said that I had done it before :(
  • I see what you mean though, £25 for switching, not seen this one before.

The link you provided is dead though.

:)You won't get any useful response from a credit card company. Rejected - anybody's guess why? Keep trying and don't forget the £25.00 cashback site next time, for your credit card application!

I've amended the link - it should work now!
