Can I get any compensation ?

Ok so firstly, 2 year ago, I got a 25 litre keg from Wilko's for my homebrew, the seal around the tap was poor quality and I had around 3 gallons of it on my floor. I though isolated incident, cleaned it up and Wilko's refunded me for keg and loss of ingredients - simple as that.

Now this christmas I fancied a go at doing wine kit. So I got red wine and all equipment from Wilko's. This morning, and I write this after a 2 hour clean up operation. I noticed the glass demi-john was kinda leaking around the base. I thought where is that coming from, picked it up by the handles and the base came clean off - no cracks, no broken glass, just a clean break, and 1.8 litres of red wine everywhere!

It soaked a t-shirt and other stuff, however I thought it could have been worse as I could of had things like a mobile or something along floor, good job my superhub is on a plastic stand otherwise that would have been gone.

Anyways I cleaned it up and thought ok, go have a cuppa, I went downstairs and it leaked through the ceiling :|

Onto a few of my son's toys which are situated in the corner. He has his WWE ring and figures in corner, now these are plastic so they cleaned easy. However he has a brawling buddies, which is £30 ! and cotton material or some kind of synthetic that won't clean ! ruined along with my t shirt.

I know I can get items from Wilkinson's refunded but what about other belongings ? Also I wanted to know why would this happen, so I googled it, it has happened to others, it is a pure poor quality product not fit for purpose.

What action should I take ?

Thanks

    Do you have household insurance?

Not sure that is the way to go at the moment, but worth keeping in mind if things become difficult.

stay away from insurance, it likely won't be worth claiming with excess & premium loadings.

The fault and consequences are down to Wilko, you should make a list if costs with any evidence you have and write to them asking for those costs to be covered. If they refuse then it's off to the small claims court.

and maybe take photos of the broken-demijohn and the other damage the leakage has caused.
