I've trying to change my finished word document into a report format.. you know.. 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 etc. I've put 'report' into HELP but I can't find out how to do it! Does anyone know how I do this?
also, should I have set the format before I started? Its a bit late now finished my 5000 words!!
thanks!:o

Not sure what you want to do .....
Do you want to have a heading e.g.
1 Heading
Followed by paragraphs like
1.1 This is the first paragraph.
1.2 This is the second paragraph
2 This is the Second Heading
2.1 This the first paragraph, under the second heading
etc
If so, then you need to use Styles. You would create a Style for the Heading e.g. font, size, bold etc .... and then create a Style for the Body Text (the paragraphs that follow the heading).
You would then format the Heading Style using Outline Numbering (use Format, Styles & Formatting). Your heading would be a Level 1 number e.g. 1. Your body text would be a level 2 heading e.g. 1 - but you would let Word carry forward the first level heading. So that every paragraph of body text under the first heading would be numbered 1.x and every paragraph under the second heading would be 2.x etc.
Look in help for "Styles" and have a look at this FAQ
Ideally, you would define your styles first, before you type a single word ... but it's possible to go back and apply/reformat styles to a finished document.

Use Heading 1 paragraph format for:
1 Main section
and Heading 2 paragraph format for:
1.1 Sub section
and so on.
