Moben Kitchens full payment up front

My parents are in the process of getting Moben Kitchens to install a new kitchen. Moben have demanded full payment before starting because of their age (father 83) is this normal I've advised them to ask for 10% to be retained to cover any problems

Never pay anybody in full upfront.
Its just asking to be ripped off.
Moben have a downright cheek.....in fact if they have said it is because your dad is 83 then your probably be within your rights to report them for age discrimination!!!!!
I personally would hold at least 10% back ( more like 25%) until the job was finished to your satisfaction.
I also agree with the OP Moben and the like are very very expensive.

Hi, I used to be a showroom manager for moben, the kithchens are of decent quality,I have one,but like anything, it pays to shop around !
If I rember correctly Moben were told, by the office of fair trade (?) a few years ago to remove the clause in their contract that stated 100% payment upfrount.
if I were you I'd contact them and say that you will only go ahead with purchase on condition that you retain a certain percentage to be paid on completion.
Hope this helps,if you want to know anything else I'll do my best to help.

If I was you, I would tell your parents to escape quick smart!! I had a Moben kitchen fitted a couple of years ago and they are the biggest rip off merchants going!!

It was a beautiful kitchen but the cowboys who installed it (you can't get your own fitters in) made it look like a cheapo and it cost us nearly 10 grand!! They left scratch marks on the cupboards and even left a gas pipe exposed that we only knew was near fatal because a gas fitter friend saw it and told us to get them back to fix it - honestly, they are total nightmare and I would avoid at all costs!!

We had a Moben kitchen fitted about 5 years ago, and was angry about the 100% payment upfront (to be paid when the kitchen units and appliances were delivered). After much persuasion, they agreed to me with-holding a portion of the cost (I can't remember how much) until after satisfactory completion. As it happened, the fitter was very good and we were pleased with the kitchen, but I still think it is very dodgy to insist on full or nearly full payment upfront.

    .
Its true, Moben were pulled up by the OFT for asking for 100% of costs up front. The ruling went against Moben but it seems they choose to ignore this. Get someone else in, don't go to Moben. Their customer service stinks. If you have a problem, they make you go round in circles then months later when nothing has been done about the problem (guaranteed you will have one) they then ignore your phone calls.

Found out today that Moben/Dolphin/Sharps parent company MKD Holdings have been in Administration since 31st May 2007. It's on the Times newspaper website.
