Wickes Kitchen and Granite worktop!

Hi All,

We are purchasing a new kitchen (Houston range from Wickes).

We are on a serious budget, hoping to purchase cheap cabinets and then hopefully will make it up on the appliances, flooring, worktops, taps etc)

My question is, myself and the wife were originally looking for solid wood worktops but decided the ongoing maintenance would be too much so we are contemplating granite or quartz.

We have seen a site close to us in Watford (agandm) and they have some reasonable prices but i have some questions.

1) do the cabinets need to be strong enough to carry the weight of the granite/quartz, either the black pearl or midnight black? and does anyone know if the cabinets we have chosen will be ok? (am worried the sales people from wickes will give me some !!!! and bull about the cheaper the units the more likely they will be of getting destroyed under the weight and push me to get more expensive cabinets (and therefore more commission for them)

2) do we need to build the units first and then get someone round to the templating etc?

Any help would be great!

The Wickes units are more than suitable for any stone top.
Yes build units then get it tempeleted. Make sure you knock the legs in fully, and the flange is over the sides. You will understand when you start to assemble them.

I got mu base units from Wickes, and found them to be competative on them, however they charged way over the odds for the quartz worktops. I ended up speaking to some online suppliers and in the end went for Whitton Worktops, they were much cheaper than Wickes, and the Finnish is great. I am very happy with my choice.

Agree with above posts, Wickes units are strong enough for stone workstops, did not know that agandm also have showroom in Watford?
