Options
Hi Guys can any one help me with this please.
I have a dvd rewriter and a dvd rom installed in my pc but when i go into "My Computer" they only show up as cd drives, i think they still work as they should but i would like to see them called by their correct names in my computer.
They show up ok in device manager.
Any idea guys.

Okay if this is what you mean, here is the solution. Worked for my XP operating system....

I have a DVD-rom and a DVD-Writer and keep forgetting which is which, so I renamed them DVD-Reader and DVD-Writer which shows up in explorer/my compter etc. IS THIS WHAT YOU MEAN?

If so, you need to backup your registry and USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. Remember, I've only tried this with XP.

Open NOTEPAD and paste in the following code changing the letter X for example here to the drive letter you need to change and LABEL REQUIRED to what you want the drive to be called now (keep it fairly short)....

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\X]
    @=""

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\X\DefaultLabel]
    @="LABEL REQUIRED"

WARNING: MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO SPACES IN THE LINES BEGINNING [HKEY_LOCAL....
FOR SOME REASON THIS POST KEEPS PUTTING IN RANDOM SPACES EVEN WHEN I TRY TO EDIT. AT THE MOMENT THERE IS A SPACE IN THE WORDS CURRENTVERSION. REMOVE THE SPACE.

Now save the file as drive.reg (not .txt) to your desktop.

Now double click on this file and you'll get a message to say do you want to merge or add to your registry or something like that, click yes or okay. Now restart windows and hey presto.

Once again, BACKUP YOU REGISTRY AND USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
 Can anyone explain to me how to put a signature here?
