My zoflora caps break too, but no pets here to bother. (I still miss my Buster-dog, and its been 5 and a half years now).

Stardrops, I've come to the conclusion, it goes jelly like when its cold, as after I stood it in the mop bucket when it was filling with warm water yesterday it went back to its liquid state, and it doesn't happen when the weathers warmer in my house.

The turning white in water indicates phenols in the product. Phenols seem to be a bit more toxic to cats than to dogs, but if you're concerned about it then there are alternative products to use. I often clean my floors with a homemade solution - white vinegar, bicarb and a teeny squirt of washing up liquid in hot water. Then every once in a while I'll clean with floor cleaner just to give it a stronger disinfectant, but I'll rinse afterwards and let it dry thoroughly before the dogs are allowed on it.

Just to confirm krylr's comment - disinfectants which turn white contain phenols (in its pure form, very toxic) aka carbolic acids.

They're a coal tar derivative. They're very effective disinfectants though.
