Stardrops turned to jelly & Zoflora caps breaking... is it me or is it them?!

Options
I just dug out my 'reserve bottle' of ordinary orange concentrate Stardrops from the back of the cupboard and found it has turned to jelly! It's really thick and barely moves when i turn the bottle over. I can't see any cracks and the lid was on right. I guess it's been there a year or so as I stocked up when it was on offer.

Is this normal?
Can I still use it by diluting it? (If I can get it out of the bottle!)

Also, I bought a new Zoflora (Apple Orchard) in early autumn, and the lid has already cracked around the top. I am careful not to do it up too tightly as this has happened to me before (Winter Spice), but that bottle was quite old.

Has this happened to anyone else?
Do you think I'd be ok transfering the contents to an old travel shampoo bottle? (as I worry it'll evaporate all the useful stuff)

*Admin please feel free to add this to the appropriate cleaning thread at the right time. Thanks

I don't think the stardrops turning to jelly will affect its cleaning properties - as long as it still disperses in water.

I used to buy zoflora but haven't since I had my first cat - when someone told me that disinfectants which turn white in water are dangerous to use around cats - so cant help you there! sorry!

Yes - I believe so. I don't actually buy disinfectant now - haven't for years and don't miss it. I use vinegar or bicarb instead.

So that would include Detol then with hot water? As I thought that was always fine for any animal.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Yes, I've had some Zoflora caps break too, and I know they were not over tightened.

As for Dettol and dogs, in the past I've used diluted Dettol to bathe a wound on the vets advice.

Back to Zoflora - wish Flower Shop was still widely available - a lovely fresh smell of cut stalks.

This has happened to a bottle of Stardrops I've had for about a year. It still does exactly what it should so I'm not too worried bout it, probably a chemical reaction to the contents being stored for so long.

As for the Zoflora caps the last three out of four of mine have cracked around the top - all different perfumes. I can't say whether it's harmful to cats but hasn't affected my dog in any way, and I put a drop in the water when I clean the kitchen floor every night.

Salt water is cheaper and safer than Dettol for dogs, I have a very MSE vet :D. The only time we use Dettol is to disinfect the bath after one of the dog's rare baths.
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

I only ever used salt water to bathe any cuts Penny-Dog got; and she was with me til she was 15.:o *cries, cos I still miss her, even though she departed this earth in 2002*

Jellified Stardrops still does what it's meant to; just dilute it in water.

Never used Zoflora, so can't comment on that.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

    Thanks everyone!

Sparrer you've made me feel better that you've had both happen to you.

I also use zoflora on the kitchen floor (especially after my elderly dog has had an accident) and she doesnt lick it so i've not worried. I think the smell it has helps her to realise she shouldnt have peed there!

for little cuts etc I use dilute salt water on the dog.
