I personally have no problems with CRA's they provide an accurate financial picture in general, lenders need to see your other accounts and how they are managed, not checking is how this country got in a state a few years back, I just don't agree with the scores. Yes there will be fraud but that's why there is cifas, some fraud is from the actual consumer so details can be inconsistent because of the individual, take a look at the cifas codes. I see a lot of moaning but no better solutions. Most people need educating to CHECK YOUR FILES, if you check them regularly you can sort out issues, most come on ranting after they have been turned down for credit then checking and spotting an issue. I don't know why finances and credit reports aren't taught at school.0

What good would checking be in the case of incorrect data I have mentioned when the CRAs are doing absolutely nothing about stopping it or even correcting it ?Most people need educating to CHECK YOUR FILES, if you check them regularly you can sort out issues,...
Are you applying that to me? I haven't complained about being turned down for credit. I am complaining about reckless obtention and retention of data e.g. incorrect dob data, and the lack of proper response when it is identified.... most come on ranting after they have been turned down for credit then checking and spotting an issue.
Moaning about being rejected for credit isn't what this thread is about directly. Maybe that particular point might be better made in the "CRAs unfit for purpose - need reform" thread?
Well I don't disagree, except that banks and CRAs would have to clean up their acts enormously in order to make their part of it a subject that could be taught rather than the bvggers muddle that it is.I don't know why finances and credit reports aren't taught at school.
Valid comment! But at this point I can only say that Equifax (with whom I had my main alert service) either remain completely oblivious to the new credit agreement (I can't see it on my Equifax report), or they did in fact reject the incorrect data. So as yet I have no evidence of reckless obtention or retention in their case.I'm waiting for the inevitable "Equifax Fundamental Breach of Data Protection Act 1998" thread.

I agree - the OP's post have been completely one-sided and always fail to acknowledge that he was offered the opportunity to engage but appears to have declined.
Instead he appears to be hoping for some kind of divine intervention or mindreading from the CRA - otherwise, unless the OP is called Mr Victimofimpersonation, they would be unable to find his records to assist further.:hello:0 -

Was told this evening that the card provider specifically uses Experian during their new cc app online "instant" decision process. So we have a security hole. Take more or less any name and address, preferably one likely to be inhabited by creditworthy types whose letterbox you can dip, and not those who come on MSE for kicks in the middle of the day, who might hear theirs rattle, go to a certain car provider's website, put in any old data so long as the name and address fits, and sit back for an instant decision when the car provider's computer has "run an automatic check" with Experian. Card and PIN will arrive in the mail at your target address. You just have to go pick it up before your target name does, and then start spending care-free.
More info to follow I am told. So Experian are checked instantly by the card provider before the new cc app is approved. Not sure when Noddle get the data or where they get it from.
Let's let the children have their fun a little longer ...0 -
You do know that the instant decisions are reviewed anyway even if the card gets sent out?
That's why you get threads on here of people who have received a card but also get a letter declining the card before it's activated.
Thus a card with no account or rather one which got opened and the closed within the time period of mailing the card.0 -

I appreciate there are of course all sorts of reviews and check procedures after a card account is opened supposedly keeping us safe, or perhaps keeping the overall book of lending risk/fraud risk to the bank within levels they are happy with. You do know that the instant decisions are reviewed anyway even if the card gets sent out?

However, if my account was reviewed for example for spending habit, then the fraudsters managed to fool the review process - within about a week it was maxed out.
You should particularly note that this account was opened, card activated, reached limit, received over limit fee, then a second fee plus a late fee and no bank and no CRA queried it in the two months of issue or the 3 weeks after I had to discover it myself.0
