CC Fraud

Hello all. To cut a long story short I have noticed a couple of charges on my credit card for £30 each which I did not recognise and after my investigation it is apparent that somebody has made purchases of playstation points for fifa 14. I found this out by looking at my online account and then logged in to my playstation account where the card details are stored and changed my password.
I contacted my CC company who tell me it is not their fault but the fault of sony who obviously own the playstation brand and that I must get my money back from sony.
I just want to know if this sounds correct because the last thing I need is to be chasing sony and hanging on the phone for eternity only for them to redirect me back to my CC company.

Rubbish.
Go back to your credit card company - report the charges as fraudulent and insist they be refunded.
If the front line call centre person tries to fob you off - insist on talking to the fraud department. They should send you a form to deny you made the transactions and then go investigate for you.
If you're still getting fobbed off - you need to write a letter - but call back first.0 -
The card issuer is right. Your card details are safe, it will be your account with Sony that has been hacked, the fraudster doesn't have your card details, just your PS account details. They can only carry out fraud on your PS account, nowhere else.0

I should add that I was put through to the fraud dept and they said the reason I must chase this myself is that my card itself was not hacked but my playstation account was.
I just feel like I'm getting fobbed off and through no fault of my own am £60 worse off.0 -

The take home lesson is to NOT store your account details on you PS account or any other website for that matter..0 -
Hi w0lfm0ther
It looks like there are two possibilities here, and you need to establish which is correct:
Option 1. You have set up a Continuous Payment Authority with Sony Entertainment Network (the PlayStation people), which allows them to take payments from your card when necessary (e.g. when you order PlayStation points.)
If this is the case, you probably have to chase Sony as they appear to have taken two £30 payments incorrectly. (As you gave permission for a Continuous Payment Authority, as far as the bank is concerned, these payments are not fraudulent.)
Option 2. Sony simply store your credit card details for convenience. There is no Continuous Payment Authority. Each time something is ordered (e.g. PlayStation points), it is treated as an individual transaction.
If this is the case, the bank should probably treat these as two fraudulent transactions, and allow chargebacks.
So the key question is whether a CPA exists - either the bank or Sony should be able to tell you this. Either way, it may be sensible to talk to Sony to get their perspective on this.0
