How to stop cat ripping up carpet?

Hi,
Have a lively cat who likes to scratch and play a lot, he usually uses one of his many scratching posts but he's started ripping up the carpet at the threshold between laminate floor in hallway and carpet in bedrooms so the carpet is now coming away strand by strand. He's an indoor cat and needs the space to roam in the bedrooms so it's not an option to keep those doors closed. I'll try to insert an image here to show the damage so far.

I thought of gluing over it with a glue gun but that would be a complete mess I'm sure, and taping it would look really bad and he'd probably just rip it up again. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this now?
Thank you!

Strange that, because our cat used to do that if the door was Shut !!!
Kleeneze do a product called Scratch no More, it certainly stopped our cat doing it to the rug we had, and at the 'closed' door.
It is citrus based and cats don't like it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Spray the cat with water or shake a pill bottle (or similar) when it starts to strach to train it not to.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
You need a Z bar. Alternatively the cat hates the carpet and want a different one.0

Get rid of the cat!
I gave up trying to stop mine scratching the carpet. Instead putting something there for them to scratch.
I've now got a few strategically placed scratching mats for them to attack instead.
Works well but can make a lot of mess from bit of cardboard.
There's other types of board though
Start with the board in the area being scratched and gradually more it somewhere more discreet hoping the cats will follow.0 -
I have read if you put down small cotton wool balls covered with vick
it should stop the cats scratching as they hate the smell0 -
If you Google Feliway, it'll give you an answer. It does work. Well, helps, at least. Putting a scratching post in that area, then slowly moving it away and the cat should leave that area alone. Clipping the cat's claws (a vet can show you how) will reduce it as well.0
