I Have A Gardener But It's Expensive
I currently have a company keeping my garden maintained but it's costing me a fortune. I pay twenty five pounds every 2 weeks, that is fifty pounds a month. It's nice to have a maintained garden but do you think it's worth it?
My garden is 100 ft long, hardly has any grass and grows mainly weeds. I don't have time myself, I work long shifts. I get 2 rest days a week which I suppose I could do the garden myself on one of those days but I don't know how.
I don't know what tools I would need or how to look after the garden on the cheap. Any ideas?
Thanks x

If there is no grass and mainly weeds....would you get more benefit from it if you put it to grass and simply mowed it......weekly in the growing season? Forget it this time of year?0 -
The price you're paying isn't bad in my opinion. Depends how much work they physically do for you. Does seem like a big garden.
If it's mainly weeds, you will find in the growing season that if you get it cleared by the gardener, then each week just spend an hour or so keeping on top of it - clearing any new weeds that appear, it's not much work at all. All you need is a hoe.If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -

What do you mean by putting it to grass? Sorry but I'm useless where gardens are concerned.0 -
When is the growing season?0

Put a load of membrane down to stop weeds then tip gravel onto it. Add a seat - Bobs your uncle, Fanny;s your aunt.0

Just have the whole thing as lawn instead of no wan and weeds. Then its easily and relatively quickly maintainable by you.
The growing season is variable, depending on temperature. E.g. Its warm enough where I am for grass to be growing now, but I'm not heading out to cut my lawn! ( partly because its too wet and partly because my ancient lawn mower is having its annual service and disappears or a month or so. ) .
It doesn't sound as if you care to learn to garden the plants you might have? Pruning or anything? If so its all quite easy and most plants are reasonably forgiving.
If you posted pictures we might be able to advise a bit better:)0 -
I will get a picture up later. It's not my garden as I'm in a Housing association property and won't be here forever so don't want to go overboard but I need to keep the garden tidy and it would be nice to get the grass growing again. When I post the photo hopefully you can give me tips.0
