Money taken from bank in 2011???

Morning,

I'm after some advise before I proceed incase I've got no chance!
It goes back to 2011. I booked a spa day through Groupon for £65, which was paid through Paypal in Feb 2011. We phoned in Aug 2011 and booked our day for Sept. Everything went fine and that was that! I was clearing out my old bank statements etc yesterday and noticed that on Sept 2011 statement the spa had taken £140.00 out of my account! I have only ever visited this spa once and this was paid for through Groupon via Paypal. No extra treatments were paid for and no products bought. I have no idea how/why this money was taken and I'm frustrated that this slipped through my radar! Is there any way I could get this checked out or is it way too late? I was wondering if the spa would have records of who's attended etc?!?
Thanks
(A Frustrated) Donna

If they took money they aren't entitled to then you have 6 years to claim it back from them so you're well within that period. How you're going to prove they weren't entitled to the money is another question.

Do you have no idea at all how they got your bank details? What form was the payment in (i.e a debit card transaction or a direct debit etc?)

Did you buy something from them when you were there, and could the price rung up at the till have been wrong?

Did you hand over your Groupon voucher as "payment" at the time?

    Hi,

    Thank you.

They took the money on the 8th August and I went the spa on the 21st Sept so it's not from buying something there. I'm thinking that when I phoned to book the sap day they took my bank details as a precautionary matter as I told them it was a Groupon voucher, gave them the code and was told to bring the voucher on the day which I did and gave to them! I know for a fact I would not agree to pay £140.00 over the phone when booking as I knew I had already paid by Paypal. It doesn't say on my bank statement what kind of payment it was - it just states the name of the spa and the area it is in. Would I need to contact the bank for any help or just contact the spa?
    Thanks

Well I would start by contacting the spa. They may just check their records and refund you.
