claim for tv on house insurance

hello.
I know its been aksed on here multiple times, but im going to ask again for my specific circumstances.
I bought a brand new shiney tv and soundbar for myself for xmas. i have retired the old tv (3 years old) a toshiba 40 inch lcd to the bedroom along with my old surround set up. I decided to get some home insurance mainly for the new tv and soundbar in case anything happened. it was cheaper than currys "whatever happens" rubbish that they peddle so i went for it. I live in a council house so i only needed contents. Cost me £80 for the year with budget insurance and got the accidental damage extra cover. this was about 3 or 4 weeks ago.
Yesterday i bought a wall mount for the old tv to put up in the bedroom. got the mount on, all looked well. took off the old stand so i could mount it and as i was enlisting the help of my other half to help it up on to the wall it slipped and fell face first onto the carpet, and what was waiting for it when it landed? the handle of my screwdriver. the screen didnt crack or smash but it now has broken pixels and a line of pixels going horizontally across the screen, now obviously im gutted, not as much as i would have been with my new set but i would like to get another tv for the lovely wall mount i watch currently at night.
My excess is £100. from what i can see my policy is new for old, so a toshiba 40 inch is about £400 at currys. similar spec. i paid £380 for this one with a discount form work form comet 3 years ago, i beleive it was around £420 retail.
ive never had to put in a claim before, in fact this is my first home insurance, will i pay them the £100 and get a similar tv? or do i get a cheque minus the £100? will i get anything? lol, im not 100% sure how i works or how quickly it gets sorted. Im currently looking for the receipt which im sure i will have somewhere. As i said ive read various posts where people have gotten vouchers etc but the posts i read were a couple of years old.
any advice on this would be great, and any problems i may have, as i say i only took out the insurance 3 weeks ago
thanks in advance.

If your claim is accepted think its most likely that the Insurer will arrange the replacement of the TV for you or give you vouchers for their preferred supplier.
However, you should expect that an investigation will be conducted. These are the 'indicators' that the Insurer will be alerted to;
i) you have taken out Contents insurance, seemingly for the first time in a long while
ii) within 3 weeks of taking the cover you have made a claim
iii) the item being claimed for appears to have been made semi-redundant. By this I mean that you replaced it with a new TV a few weeks ago and were putting the old TV to a secondary use. That in itself is not a big problem...but it will make the Insurer curious.
iv) Accidental damage to TVs/laptops etc. is one of the biggest sources of insurance fraud.
Genuine claimants have no need to worry as the investigations are designed to validate the circumstances of the loss/incident. Fraudsters are likely to be caught.
Good luck with your genuine claim0 -
Just from memory, I'd have to find the paperwork (of my insurance) . . .
Amongst the exclusions:
TV is not covered whilst being mounted onto a wall bracket.
not exactly how it's worded but something similar . . . check the small print.0 -

I would say it really isn't worth claiming for
Not only will you have the £100 excess you will have a loading on your policies for the next 5 years.
When I claimed for OH's MacBook my premiums went up by £120 just because of that one claim.First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
i worked for car insurance. setting up policies, nothing to do with claims. the more i read it seems like its not really worth it. i can get a 40 inch telly from asda for £270 hardly seems worth the hassle.0

Did you buy cover through your employer?0

no, there wasnt a discount, it was a work form home job. only did it for 3 months, they only did car insurance, job was ok but money was rubbish. all we did was take calls from people who didnt want to pay online. i did a quote with them for myself and it was £2000, a bit more than the £350 i ended up paying to someone else.
I asked on here about the tv as ive never had home contents insurance and its a million miles away from car insurance. Ive decided to just stump up an extra 80 quid on top of the 100 i would have paid in excess and get a 32 inch one for the bedroom. Not worth the premium increase next year for the sake of claiming.
thanks for all the advice0 -
